Virgin Media Increases Broadband Prices for Customers

Virgin Media has announced that millions of its customers will soon have to pay more to access the internet.

Price increases starting from the 1st April for Virgin Media Customers

Some customers will see their broadband and TV bills go up by an average of 13.8% from April 1, while others will be hit by the record-breaking price increases in May.

BT will also be increasing prices from March

The company says it will start telling customers how much extra they will pay and when to expect their bills to rise in the coming weeks. This news comes on the heels of BT announcing that it will raise prices by over 14% from March.

Many other internet service providers (ISP) are increasing prices for many of their customers

Many other internet service providers (ISPs) are also hiking prices, with EE, Vodafone, Plusnet, and TalkTalk all revealing their increases. Sky is the only main ISP that has not yet confirmed how much extra it will soon charge. However, not all users will be affected by the hike. Virgin has confirmed that the most vulnerable users, including those on its Essential Broadband packages (for people receiving Universal Credit) and Talk Protected landline customers, will not see their prices change in 2023.

The upcoming rise is not the only change that Virgin is making to its broadband plans. The company is also switching its terms from next year and will follow firms such as BT by linking the cost increases to the current Retail Price Index (RPI). This could be good news if the RPI drops over the next 12 months, but if it stays the same or rises, users can expect even bigger bills to pay.

With budgets already stretched due to the cost of living crisis, this news comes at a particularly difficult time for millions of homes.

The table below shows what the increase could add to Virgin bills:

Price NOW – £20 • From March 31 £22.76

Price NOW – £30 • From March 31 £34.14

Price NOW – £40 • From March 31 £45.52

Price NOW – £50 • From March 31 £56.90

Price NOW – £20 • From March 31 £68.28

In conclusion, it is not just BT and Virgin that are raising prices for broadband users, many ISPs are doing the same. While the company has frozen prices for vulnerable customers, the news of the increase in prices comes at a difficult time for many households.
