Ultrafast all-fibre network in Nottinghamshire
More than 100,000 homes and businesses across Nottinghamshire can now subscribe to some of the fastest and most reliable broadband connections in Europe thanks to a multi-million pound investment from Openreach. However, there are concerns that thousands of residents and businesses could miss out on the benefits. The company has so far spent more than £30million to build a new ultra-fast, ultra-reliable all-fibre network that is up to 10 times faster than the average UK broadband connection and around 5 times more reliable than legacy copper. But thousands of residents have yet to upgrade in places like Arnold, Beeston, Gedling, Hucknall, Ruddington, Sherwood and West Bridgford, where on average only about 12 percent of buildings use full fibre, falling short of the UK average.
Research shows this new network will give businesses an edge in battling the pandemic and provide families and home workers with future-proof connectivity, whatever life throws at us next.
Gigabit-enabled broadband can have a huge impact on people’s lives and is great for business, but upgrades aren’t automatic. People need to place an order with their chosen providers to connect and do the rest well. Openreach network offers the widest range of providers including BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen – meaning people have a wide choice and can get a great deal. Even if you already have decent service, it’s worth checking out the upgrade because full fibre is the future and offers the best broadband experience at great value.
You no longer have to worry about your video call freezing or your files failing to upload when everyone at home is competing for bandwidth at the same time. A report from the Centre for Economics & Business Research (Cebr) shows that connecting all of the East Midlands to full-fibre broadband would provide a $3.5 billion boost to the local economy by enabling smarter ways of working, better public services and greater opportunities for the next generation of domestic companies. ‘ Nottinghamshire is one of the best connected counties in the country and is important for the economy.
