A new report commissioned by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent carrier-neutral full-fibre platform, has found that Leicester is a major beneficiary of the rollout of future
The study by consultancy Hatch estimates that the positive impact of CityFibres’ £80m investment in Leicester over 15 years could support major economic growth, including £780m in productivity , innovation and new market opportunities for companies, 172 million from expanded employee participation and 535 million in increasing housing value. Technological benefits are also the focus of the report, which shows that the CityFibres network in Leicester can help unlock £2 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) from 5G services and £647 million from the Internet of Things.
The ongoing transition to working from home and flexible working, aided by full fiber access at home and in the office, is also opening up employers’ access to a larger workforce. In Leicester, the productivity gains from flexible working are estimated at over 40 million.
The direct impact of network deployment is also identified as a key factor in Leicester’s economic growth creating 50 jobs across CityFibres’ construction partners and supply chain.
