Fibrus announces £200m expansion across Cumbria and various towns across UK

After huge success in Northern Ireland, the company is bringing hyper-fast broadband to homes and businesses with a major expansion in Cumbria. The company has committed to reaching over 113,000 buildings by 2025. 200m to be invested in Cumbria benefiting over 40 towns and villages including Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven and Ulverson

. In a phased approach, the expansion will include over 40 towns and villages including Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven and Ulverston. The expansion, which started in Penrith back in May, is part of its £200m investment in Cumbria, which will see the internet provider reach over 113,000 locations over the next three years. Given the importance of digital connectivity, this is a crucial aspect to boosting the UK economy.

The Fibrus launch is particularly focused on areas of the north of England that have traditionally had poor broadband coverage. With that in mind, Cumbrian residents will benefit from a faster, more reliable and more affordable network. While phone and TV companies run low-speed copper phone networks from the closet to the premises, Fibrus uses full fiber optic cabling running straight to the premises for world-class performance. This hyper-fast broadband will for the first time bring residents of Cumbria’s rural towns and villages a transformative new service they can rely on.

To further support the community, the expansion is expected to create over 200 jobs across Cumbria. The rollout will be overseen by Fibrus’ newly appointed GB Build Director, Martin Dougan. Martin brings extensive experience managing large telecom infrastructure projects, growing businesses and supply chains to build urban, rural and ultra-rural networks. He joins from Morrison Telecom Services where he led the deployment of fiber to home networks to support projects carried out on behalf of Openreach in Scotland.

Martin Dougan, UK Build Director, Fibrus, comments: “Connectivity is more important than ever and crucial to aligning the UK economy. I am therefore excited to join Fibrus, a company that can play a key role in making this happen. Our UK rollout plan is as ambitious as the incredibly talented and dedicated team that will bring hyper-fast broadband to cities and businesses that have been disadvantaged for too long. Having launched in our first UK town, Penrith, late last month I can’t wait to continue supporting Fibrus’ rapid growth and future success.”
