AltNet provider Ogi announces new full fibre network roll-out in South Wales
Independent service provider (ISP) Ogi has announced plans to deliver high-speed, full fibre broadband to another 150,000 premises across Wales.
Ogi, which describes itself as ‘Wales’s home-grown broadband company,’ is investing millions in building and maintaining new networks in digitally excluded towns and villages in South Wales.
The company already has live networks in Haverfordwest, Rhoose, Llantwit Major, St Athan, and Abergavenny.
Ofcom’s 2021 Connected Nations report cited Ogi directly, stating that the firm was a major contributor in ‘levelling up’ full-fibre coverage in Wales. High-speed internet coverage in Wales increased from 19% to 27% from 2020 to 2021. Today it’s close to 32%, which is on par with the rest of the UK.
“The latest Ogi roll out is bringing much-needed connectivity to towns and villages across south Wales much faster than they’d otherwise be served,” said Ogi’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Allwright. “We’re passionate about the possibilities that our Gigabit-connectivity can bring. It will ensure all communities in Wales have access to the same opportunities for a more prosperous future.”
Ogi is one of the fastest-growing ISPs in the AltNet space. It’s opening four new offices this month, including a state-of-the-art network laboratory in Newport and a flagship headquarters in Cardiff’s historic Hodge House.
It’s another sign that Ogi is on its way to reaching its ambitious goals of becoming the leading Welsh telecoms company.
“Right from the start, we aimed to become the country’s number one independent service provider,” continues Ben Allwright. “In the last 12 months, we laid the foundations for achieving that goal. Now, with the announcement of these new networks in South Wales, we’re ready to kick on and make it a reality.”
Ogi is a Welsh word that translates as a call for people to come together and unite. It expresses the company’s vision of building affordable and accessible full fibre networks that everyone in Wales can be a part of.
