Ultra fast broadband for Devon & Somerset
More than 2,000 buildings in some of the region’s hardest-to-reach rural areas will receive ultra-fast broadband coverage through Openreach’s ongoing full-fibre rollout for CDS. Openreach is actively developing around 1,500 of these premises in a number of Devon and Somerset communities including Bampton, Brompton Ralph, Coffinswell, parts of Dulverton, Ilfracombe, Kentisbury Ford, Oakford, Parracombe, Rackenford, Shaugh Prior, Stogumber, Washford and Watermouth.
Broadband network continues to expand coverage
In the coming months construction is due to start at Brayford, Butterleigh, Cadbury, Cadeleigh, Cheriton Fitzpaine, Filleigh, North Molton, Silverton, South Molton, Stockleigh Pomeroy and Thorverton and survey work has also been carried out at Clapworthy Mill, Meeth, South Zeal, Throwleigh , Satterleigh and Warkleigh. More than 400 The premises are currently ready for service in communities including parts of the parish of Bickleigh and Wotter, Combeinteignhead, parts of Dulverton and Lane End near Peter Tavy.
Local councillors welcome the expansion of fibre broadband network
Councillor Rufus Gilbert, CDS Board Member and Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery and Skills, said: Openreach is providing connectivity to a number of communities across Devon and Somerset through its program with CDS. It is gratifying to see that our current collaboration is ensuring full fibre access is possible in some of the hardest to reach areas and this has been made possible thanks to the reinvestment of funds generated by the successful rollout of broadband.
CDS Council Mike Rigby, CDS Board Member and Senior Member of Somerset County Council for Transport and Digital, said: “Most of the work that Openreach is doing under this program is now underway and more and more communities are taking on this important work run in their area. The number of operational premises is moving in the right direction, and this additional investment in vital infrastructure provides homes and businesses with the digital connectivity they need.”
More homes can have ultra-fast broadband in Devon & Somerset
