4,000 homes and businesses, including a hospital, without phones and broadband in Hampshire.
Damage to broadband cables at a Hampshire construction site has caused serious disruption to a number of area hospitals and left thousands of properties unserviced. On Thursday, cable provider Openreach reported the Dummer-area network was accidentally damaged by a third party working at a construction site on Wednesday night, affecting the operation of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites.
It added phone and broadband services to around 4,000 homes, while businesses and other organizations were disrupted. However, the group responsible for the damage was not named. Openreach said: Engineers are working hard on site to resolve the situation, but it is a complex solution and may take some time to fully recover. In a later update on Twitter, the provider added that engineers are on site and will prioritize fixes for vulnerable customers and critical local services.
The Trust has confirmed that IT services for the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital have been affected. It said: “We continue to experience high demand in our emergency rooms … due to ongoing technical issues.
